It looks as though we will be traveling the 22nd of May through Amsterdam. Arriving in Almaty on sunday the 24th.
I've always wanted to go to the Netherlands (have family and heritage there) but spending 8 hours in the airport is not my idea of having fun in Amsterdam!!!
About Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is in central asia. It was once part of the Soviet Union. It is nestled to the south of Russia and northeast of China. The national language is Kazakh but the common language spoken is Russian.

Congratulations!!! It'll be here before you know it. I was in Kaz last year and hope to be back again next year. Please let me know if I can be of help. Susan from Austin smooretexan@gmail.com
Kari, you can do a day trip tour of Amsterdam in less than 8 hours. They will pick you up/drop off at the airport. If you want to sleep the YOTEL right near the food court is expensive but very convenient. Otherwise there are lounge chairs on the second floor that you can sleep on (grab a blanket from the airplane). They are right near the day spa. I liked the spa because they had nice massage chairs. I got a manicure just so I could sleep in the chair :)
Kari,
That is nice that you have a little more time to get ready! I'm hoping things are coming together for you. Are you getting much sleep?
I had to chuckle about you "taking in" your family's heritage from the airport. I've thought the same thing if we go through Frankfurt. We'd only be an hour away from some of my ancestor's villages.
Looks like Lori's got some great advice for you. So nice that she's been there, done that! :)

Yeah!!!!!!! How awesome!!!!!!!! I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to follow your journey!
5 years ago, I left on the same date with stopover in Amsterdam on way to Almaty---great time of year to be in KAZ!

Kari,
How exciting! Only a little over a week away from meeting your child/children. How many times did you think this day would never come? Can't wait to follow your journey and hoping to be a few months behind you.
Blessings,
Kris...also from Michigan

I hear May is a great time of year for Kaz. We rested well in the lounge chairs in Amsterdam. My only advice for that airport is check their fluid requirements for Carry-On luggage. My contact solution was considered medicine by US standards but EU standards caused me to lose 4 bottles of solution. If you come back thru Amsterdam with your child on the way back, they have an awesome play area for kids and a big jungle gym area at the far end of one area! So excited for you!
My husband and I have been assigned to Ust. I would love to follow your journey while you are traveling. My email address is pamt0501@yahoo.com. We are hoping to adopt a baby boy. Our agency said we should be traveling mid summer. You could possibly see our child while you are there. Thank you Pam Raspante
Ok, this is good. It gives you a little more time to get ready, wrap your heads around things, squeeze in a few more work days!! Let me know if you need anything. I am a willing errand girl!:) This is SO EXCITING!!
You are going at such a great time, and you will love Ust once you figure out the lay of the land. I forgot to ask -- are you staying at The Shiny River?
LOL! Yeah, the 8 hour wait is a little rough but sleep it off on a nice "comfy" chair. :-)
May is the best time to be in Kaz, so beautiful!
Kari & Dave,
Every time I look at my calendar I think about ya'll leaving next week! Hope preparations are going smoothly and you are finding this a joyful & rewarding time considering all of the hard work and patience you've had. We're cheering you on!
Thanks Kari for allowing us to follow your journey. We will be cheering you on as you head to Ust.

WOW so soon : )
How very very exciting! :)
You better take lots of pictures! I mean LOTS! :)
and do try the day trip. :)
Hi Kari,
I wanted to contact you by e-mail but could not find it anywhere on your site. For some reason I thought it was approx. 12-18 months for a "referral" or LOI once your dossier was submitted, but it looks like you got an LOI within 2 months after your dossier left the embassy.
Was AA surpised? Were you surprised or is that the norm right now?
My e-mail is deanjanie@aol.com
And...Congratulations! I look so forward to following your journey into Kazakhstan. Blessings and prayers for you and your family! Janie
Thanks for the invitation and best of luck! The best recommendation that I have read for travel is to take inflatable hangers with you for drying clothes that you have washed by hand. Travelers clothing by Chicos is perfect for wash and wear! We are excited to hear your impressions of Ust! Vonne Barnett
Thank you for letting me be a part of such an important EVENT in your lives.....This blogger stuff is all new to me, but I really appreciate the oneness it brings. You probably won't hear much from me, but please know that I think your purpose is wonderful and I pray God's blessing on you & your family. I'm excited that it is time now to to culminate all your efforts and patience of the process in your "loves journey".
Thanks again for sharing!!
